Optical and Quantum Electronics - CALL FOR PAPERS: Novel Optical Materials and Devices for Nanofabrication

New Content Item

Optical devices ranging from Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) LED through to fiber optics include active and passive optical components composed from various materials, e.g., semiconductors and metals. Most of these devices are manufactured with well-established fabrication methods and technologies.

Recent developments in laser-based nanomanufacturing technologies have allowed lasers to be applied to virtually all kinds of materials at scales as small as nanometres. In conjunction with the development of quantum technologies, neuromorphic devices, and other areas of nanofabrication, further scientific and technological advancements are expected. Developing novel approaches for device fabrication and understanding the physics of optical phenomena are essential requirements for progress. Laser nanofabrication includes several very interesting techniques and development trends, including super-resolution laser direct writing, laser path-guided wrinkles, two-photon absorption-based laser nanofabrication in three dimensions, and laser interference and surface plasmon polarization nanofabrication.

The aim of this special Issue is to provide an overview of the recent techniques developed for the nanofabrication through the novel optical materials and devices. Potential topics included, but not limited

  • MEMS optical phased array in silicon micromirrors for nanofabrication
  • Electrochromic materials and devices for nanofabrication
  • Block copolymer metamaterials in optical devices for nanofabrication
  • Femtosecond laser processing in optical materials and devices for nanofabrication
  • Nanostructures and devices in ion beam nanofabrication
  • Polymeric and nanodiamond films for nanofabrication
  • Patterned carbon coatings in optically transparent plastic substrates for nanofabrication
  • Metamaterial and multi photon for micro and nano printing applications
  • Nanoimprint lithography for nanofabrication
  • Lithography in silicon on insulator devices for nanofabrication
