Multimedia Tools and Applications - Call for Papers: Advances in Multimedia Computing for Intelligent Environments [1260]

Aims and Scope
The rapid advancement of multimedia technologies, coupled with the proliferation of smart devices, sensors, and AI systems, has paved the way for the development of intelligent environments that can perceive, analyze, and respond to human activities and environmental changes. These environments, ranging from smart homes and offices to entire smart cities, leverage multimedia computing techniques and advanced AI algorithms to process vast amounts of multimodal data, including video, audio, and sensor information.

This special issue seeks to highlight the latest technological breakthroughs, theoretical frameworks, and practical applications that are shaping the future of intelligent environments through multimedia computing and AI. We aim to bring together interdisciplinary research that demonstrates how the synergy of multimedia computing and artificial intelligence can enhance situational awareness, decision-making processes, and user experiences in various intelligent environment contexts.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Multimedia analysis and processing for smart homes and cities
  • Computer vision and image processing for intelligent surveillance
  • Audio and speech processing in ambient intelligence
  • Multimodal interfaces for intelligent environments
  • Machine learning and AI for multimedia content analysis in IoT contexts
  • Edge computing for real-time multimedia processing in intelligent environments
  • Multimedia-driven context awareness and situation recognition
  • Privacy and security in multimedia-rich intelligent environments
  • Augmented and virtual reality applications in smart spaces
  • Human-computer interaction in multimedia-enhanced intelligent environments
  • Generative AI in multimedia-rich intelligent environments
  • Natural language processing and conversational AI in ambient intelligence
  • Large language models and foundation models in intelligent environments

Submission Guidelines

Authors should prepare their manuscript according to the Instructions for Authors available from the Multimedia Tools and Applications website. Authors should submit through the online submission site at https://www.editorialmanager.com/mtap/default.aspx and select “SI 1260 - Advances in Multimedia Computing for Intelligent Environments” when they reach the “Article Type” step in the submission process. Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work, relevant to one of the topics of the special issue. All submitted papers will be evaluated on the basis of relevance, significance of contribution, technical quality, scholarship, and quality of presentation, by at least three independent reviewers. It is the policy of the journal that no submission, or substantially overlapping submission, be published or be under review at another journal or conference at any time during the review process.  Final decisions on all papers are made by the Editor in Chief.
