Mobile Networks and Applications - Recent Advance in Convergence of 5G - B5G and Edge Computing for Smart Applications

This special issue focuses on the discussion on the recent advance in convergence of 5G/B5G and edge computing for smart applications. The 5th generation mobile networks (5G) has driven to B5G (beyond 5G), and it is integrated with edge computing to provide the infrastructure for pervasive computing applications. Generally, its convergence involves a wide range of areas, such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain technology, cloud/fog/edge computing, and 5G/B5G networks. These aim to enhance various aspects of our lives, including energy management, manufacturing processes, healthcare services, urban development, transportation systems, supply chain and logistics optimization, innovative business models, e-commerce, FinTech, and numerous other intelligent solutions. The integration of 5G/B5G and edge computing for smart applications, driven by the rise of cloud/fog/edge computing and the Internet of Things (IoT), has brought about a profound transformation in business models. This shift toward information sharing via smartphones and mobile devices has spurred innovation with the goal of increasing productivity and cutting operational costs. Additionally, these technologies continue to evolve rapidly in the fast-paced technological environment of today. Constant breakthroughs in hardware and software development are driving enhancements in processing speed, efficiency, and precision. It is evident that convergence of 5G/B5G and edge computing will remain a critical factor in shaping the future of technology and innovation in the coming years.
