Journal of Network and Systems Management - Call for Papers: Special Issue on Wireless and Mobile Networking: Management, Performance, and Security

Scope

The last two decades have witnessed a phenomenal rise of Wireless and Mobile communications with unprecedented deployment of Mobile Networks, Sensor networks,  Ad hoc and Opportunistic Networks, Vehicular Networks and Internet of Things (IoT). Unfortunately, these technologies are still far from satisfying the requirement of emergent  futuristic applications (e.g., Multimedia, extended reality, haptics) that have stringent requirements in terms of performance, availability, reliability and security. In addition, different from wired networks, wireless environments have peculiar characteristics due to interference, noise of the wireless signal and the mobility of the nodes that makes it challenging to manage such networks.

These challenges open several research directions to review and revisit current technologies and design new solutions, technologies, and protocols for Wireless and Mobile Networks to ensure the stringent sought-after requirements in terms of performance, availability, reliability and security.

In this context, this special issue focuses on challenges and solution approaches to design, deliver, manage, control, ensure high-performance and secure wireless and mobile networks. The special issue specifically encourages submission of papers that describe disruptive concepts, innovative solutions, testbeds, and experiments.  Topics of Interest include but are not limited to the following:

  • Design, management and deployment of Wireless and Mobile Networks, Sensor networks,  Ad hoc and Opportunistic Networks, Vehicular Networks, Internet of Things
  • Network and Transport protocols for Wireless and Mobile networks
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) for communication, management, performance and security in Wireless and Mobile networks
  • Applications and Services over Wireless and Mobile Networks (e.g., multimedia, extended reality, content management and distribution, health and environmental protection)
  • Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE) in Wireless and Mobile networks
  • Measurement, Monitoring and Performance of Wireless and Mobile Networks
  • Security of Wireless and Mobile Communications

Submission Schedule

We use an “open” submission schedule, which means that you can submit your paper at any time before we close the call (see below) and that we will start the review process as soon as the submission is received (without waiting for the call to be closed).  Many of the dates indicated below are therefore stated relative to the date the submission is initially received.

  • Call closes: June 30, 2023
  • Revision notification: 2 months after submission
  • Revised paper due: 1.5 months after the revision notification
  • Final notification: 1.5 months after the revised paper notification

Expected publication of the special issue: third quarter of 2023 (early accepted papers will be accessible online before the deadline)

Submission Guidelines:

Authors should prepare their manuscript according to the Instructions for Authors available from the Journal of Network and Systems Management website (this opens in a new tab). Authors should submit through the online submission site at https://submission.springernature.com/new-submission/10922/3 (this opens in a new tab) and select “SI Wireless and Mobile Networking: Management, Performance, and Security" when they reach the “Article Type” step in the submission process. Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work, relevant to the topics of the special issue. All submitted papers will be evaluated on the basis of relevance, significance of contribution, technical quality, scholarship, and quality of presentation, by at least three independent reviewers. It is the policy of the journal that no submission, or substantially overlapping submission, be published or be under review at another journal or conference at any time during the review process. Final decisions on all papers are made by the Editor in Chief.
