Aims and scope

The field of biological physics has undergone a rapid expansion in recent years, with scientists now using physics-based approaches to study problems ranging from molecular structure the collective movement of animal swarms.

The Journal of Biological Physics provides a dedicated home for all areas of biological physics. We seek cutting-edge papers using physics in innovative ways to further our understanding of biological problems.

All areas of biological physics can be addressed, from the molecular level, through the mesoscale of membranes and cells, up to the macroscopic level of populations of living organisms. The main criteria for acceptance are the physical content of the research and its relevance to biological systems. In order to increase the links between physics and biology and among the various fields of biological physics, authors are advised to include a first section that introduces the basic issues addressed and the primary achievements to a non-specialist scientific reader.

The Journal of Biological Physics welcomes Original Research (in-depth longer articles), Research Letters (shorter, high impact work), Reviews and Perspectives articles.

The studies published will be organized under Topical Sections which reflect the biological scale of the problems studied:
-Biological Physics of Nucleic Acids and Proteins
-Biological Physics of Lipids and Membranes
-Big Data: Proteomics, Genomics and Lipidomics
-Biological Physics of the Cell
-Genetic Networks
-Physiology
-Neurodynamics & Neural Connectivity
-Ecology & Evolutionary Processes
-Collective Behavior
-Other (General Biological Physics)

Under the last section “Other (General Biological Physics)”, the journal welcomes all biological physics studies that might be difficult to fit in any other specific topical section.
