Description
Robot vision plays the role of eyes of robotic systems. It is a sophisticated technology that helps a robot, usually an automated robot, better perceive its surroundings, identify objects, and navigate before or during the execution of the robots. It is our desire to use robotic vision that is comparable to human eyes for the solution of perception in robotic systems, which, no doubt, would largely reduce the cost of robots. However, there is still a lot to do to achieve this.

Apart from that, intelligent control plays the role of the nerve center of robotic systems. Evidently, to better serve humans, robots should be able to complete preset tasks in unstructured natural environments, with higher speed, higher precision and higher efficiency. In order to accomplish this goal, the intelligent control technology of the robotic systems urgently needs further research, such as to control the robot by leverage of neural network, reinforcement learning and deep learning. This, additionally, is the frontier of the robotics technology.

This topical issue aims to present state-of-the-art research related to robotic vision and intelligent control in advanced robotic systems that can further improve the speed of optimizing the vision system, improving the accuracy of intelligent vision processing systems, the accuracy, flexibility and efficiency of the robot execution, to better serve intelligent systems such as autonomous driving vehicles, intelligent transportation and robotic systems such as mobile robots, humanoid robots, exoskeleton robots, etc.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Visual perception
  • Robotics vision
  • Vision-based measurement
  • Path and trajectory planning
  • Machining robot control
  • Visual serving
  • Perception-based control
  • Multi-robot cooperative control
  • Human robot interaction control
  • Humanoid robot
  • Intelligent transportation
  • Exoskeleton robot
  • Medical image processing
  • Medical visual navigation

The goal of this topical issue is to approach the problem of robotics vision and intelligent control from a holistic perspective where theory and demonstrated experimental evaluation go hand in hand.
