Journal of Child and Family Studies - Introducing our New Editors-in-Chief

Cheri J. Shapiro, PhD, is a Research Associate Professor and Director of the Institute for Families in Society New Content Item (1)at the University of South Carolina and an Associate Editor for the Journal of Child and Family Studies. A licensed psychologist, she completed her PhD in clinical psychology at the University of Arizona and has more than 25 years of experience in clinical, administrative, and research settings. Past positions include Project Director for the Pittsburgh site of the Multimodal Treatment Study of Children with ADHD, Director of the Psychological Services Center at SUNY Buffalo, Director of Consultation and Evaluation Services for the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, and Project Director for the U.S. Triple P System Population Trial.  Dr. Shapiro's research focuses on prevention of social, emotional, and behavioral problems in youth and implementation of evidence-based interventions. Recent and current projects include directing the South Carolina Center of Excellence for Evidence-Based Intervention, and Principal Investigator of the Engaging and Training with Compassion Project, designed to create supportive environments for youth in schools.  Dr. Shapiro has published more than 25 articles and book chapters, and has taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels in Psychology and Social Work.

Anne F. Farrell, PhD is the Director of Research at Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago (Chapin Hall). New Content ItemIn addition to leading Chapin Hall’s policy research agenda, Dr. Farrell conducts research and policy analysis related to children, families, and communities experiencing adversity. Farrell’s projects focus on housing and child welfare, cross-systems collaborations, family-centered services, and family and community resilience. Farrell was principal investigator on a federally funded demonstration project on housing and child welfare, developed a screening tool on housing instability, and publishes and speaks frequently on the topic of housing and homelessness. Prior to joining Chapin Hall, Farrell directed the Center for Applied Research in Human Development at the University of Connecticut. She is the Past Chair of the Family Policy Section of the National Council on Family Relations, an organization of translational family scientists. She has served on the editorial boards of several journals. Farrell has her PhD in clinical and school psychology from Hofstra University.
