The Journal of Cultural Economics, with the support of the Association of Cultural Economics International (ACEI) and Springer, opens a Call for Papers for a Special Issue on “The Theory of Cultural Economics” with Guest Editors Pascal Courty (University of Victoria, Canada) and Silvia Marchesi (University of Milan Bicocca, Italy). Theoretical and hybrid theoretical & empirical works on all the aspects of cultural economics are solicited for immediate selection in the special issue.

Subject
The field of cultural economics has developed a large body of research on various aspects concerning the creative and performing arts, the economics of art, literature, music and movies, the heritage and cultural industries, the behavior of producers, consumers, and governments within the cultural sector, the economics of media and much more. While a large part of this research is empirical in nature, theoretical foundations have been always fundamental. This Call for Papers aims at collecting new research on the theoretical foundations of the field, in all of its aspects, including works that combine theoretical and quantitative analysis.

  • Labour economics of artistic professions
  • Theories of artistic innovation in cultural industries
  • Foundations (Baumol disease, superstars effects, death effects..)

  • Theoretical analysis of the movie industry
  • Theories of international trade in cultural industries
  • Cultural consumption and macroeconomics
  • Theories of subsidization of cultural industries
  • Political economy of cultural policy
  • Institutions and cultural markets
  • Behavioral cultural economics
  • Cultural networks
  • Subjective wellbeing and culture

Submission procedure
Please submit your papers through the ordinary submission process of the Journal of Cultural Economics (this opens in a new tab) selecting as article type S.I.: The Theory of Cultural Economics. Submissions will immediately follow a review process handled by the editors (Pascal Courty and Silvia Marchesi), and will be considered until completion of the Special Issue.
