International Journal of Wireless Information Networks - Call for Papers: Advances in Indoor Geolocation: Science, Technology and Applications

This Special Issue gathers updated versions of a selection of best papers from 1st Workshop on Indoor Geolocation Science, Technology and Applications (IGSTA 2019), which was organized on 1st June 2019 in Beijing, China. Furthermore, we expect that the symposium and its publications will    be a trigger for further related research and technology improvements in
this subject matter. The workshop papers are invited to submit the extended versions to this Special Issue for publication. Moreover, new papers strictly related to the special issue themes are also welcome.

Location-based services have shown high potential for various applications in the environmental, military, civil, biomedical, industrial, and other fields. While localization in outdoor environments mainly uses GPS signals (or, more generally, a global navigation satellite system GNSS), indoor localization is very challenging under noise, non-stationarity, cost, and energy constraints, which leads to an increasing demand for accurate localization algorithms.

This special issue aims to provide a forum for academic and industrial communities to report recent theoretical and application results related to indoor geolocation from the perspectives of algorithms, architectures, and applications. Manuscripts covering unpublished research that clearly delineate the role of localization in indoor scenarios are invited.

Topics appropriate for this special issue include (but are not necessarily limited to):

  • Indoor localization systems
  • Simultaneous localization and mapping
  • Indoor data structures and models
  • Indoor positioning, navigation and guidance
  • Navigating between outdoor and indoor models
  • Evacuation and human activity monitoring
  • Data fusion for mobile robot navigation
  • Robot formation and tracking
  • Applications of mobile robot navigation

Submission deadline: March 31, 2020
Notification of first round review: June 30, 2020
Revised manuscript due: August 31, 2020
Final decision notification: October 30, 2020

A thorough review process will be employed to ensure comprehensive reviews of the papers and ultimate selection of the best and most representative contributions. Each received paper will be subject to 2-3 independent reviews. The invited conference papers are required to be substantially extended to be acceptable for publication in this journal. The manuscript will be judged solely on the basis of new contributions excluding the contributions made in earlier publications. Contributions should be described in sufficient detail to be reproducible on the basis of the material presented in the paper and the references cited therein. Moreover, the guest editors will ensure that the timeline set for the review process is strictly adhered to.The guest editors will address any conventional or specialized requirements imposed by the editor-in-chief and/or the publisher. The intention is to fully conform to the high quality  standards of the journal.
