Heart Failure Reviews - Call for Papers on “Innovations in Heart Failure”

Heart Failure Reviews is excited to announce a Call for Papers for a special Focus Issue on Innovations in Heart Failure. Guest Editors Dr. Marat Fudim (Duke/Duke Clinical Research Institute) and Dr. Philipp C. Lurz (University Mainz) will oversee this inaugural Focus Issue, to be published in the fall 2024.

We invite submissions for all article types*, including:

  • State-of-the-Art Reviews
  • Mini Focused Reviews
  • Consensus Statements
  • Research Highlights
  • Progress in Heart Failure
  • Areas of Controversy
  • Rationale and Design Papers

*Please note that Heart Failure Reviews does not accept Original Reports.

The editors are looking for papers in the following (but not limited to) topics areas:

  • Novel strategies of care that challenge existing treatment paradigms
  • Virtual care platforms and digital therapeutics for chronic disease management
  • Applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for care
  • Invasive and non-invasive remote monitoring solutions to avoid hospitalizations
  • Emerging device-based therapeutics for acute and chronic care management

We encourage multidisciplinary collaborations, involvement of trainees, and inclusion of the patient perspective as feasible.

Submissions are due via the submission system (this opens in a new tab) before June 1st, 2024.

Please Include the Focus Issue topic in all cover letters.

Meet the Guest Editors:

Dr. Marat Fudim is an Associate Professor and heart failure cardiologist at the Duke University Medical Center. He completed his medical school in Germany, residency at Vanderbilt and cardiology fellowship at Duke. He currently serves as the Medical Director for the Heart Failure Research Unit, and Heart Failure Remote Monitoring. He won the 2021 American College of Cardiology Douglas Zipes Distinguished Young Investigator Award. His research interest is in the pathophysiology of HF, and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction specifically.

Professor Dr. Philipp C. Lurz, MD, PhD, serves as the Director of the Department of Cardiology at the University Mainz, Germany. He earned his medical degree and completed his PhD at University College London, where he conducted research at the Institute of Child Health and the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, as well as The Heart Hospital in London. Following this, he served as the deputy head of Cardiology at the Heart Center Leipzig before assuming his current position in Mainz.
Dr. Lurz is broadly recognized as an interventional cardiologist with extensive clinical and scientific expertise in congenital structural disease, valvular heart disease, and heart failure. He has received multiple accolades such as the Thomas J. Linnemeier Award at TCT 2018 and the Albert-Fraenkel award of the German Heart Association. His primary research focus lies in structural heart disease and Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction.
