Eric Poisson appointed new co-Editor-in-Chief of General Relativity and Gravitation

With great pleasure we would like to announce that Eric Poisson (this opens in a new tab) from the University of Guelph has accepted our invitation to follow Pablo Laguna as new co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal General Relativity and Gravitation in March 2024!  

Eric Poisson obtained his PhD in theoretical physics from the University of Alberta in 1991 under the supervision of Werner Israel. He joined the University of Guelph’s Department of Physics in 1995 where he is now a full professor.

The long-term goal of his research is to exploit gravitational-wave astronomy to dramatically improve our understanding of neutron stars and black holes. To reach this goal, he leads explorations of the physical processes at play when two such objects form a tight binary. 

He has gained wide editorial experience on the boards of various physics journals since 2006 and served as President of the International Society on General Relativity and Gravitation (ISGRG) from 2016-2019. Eric Poisson has also written the seminal books A Relativist's Toolkit: The Mathematics of Black-Hole Mechanics and Gravity: Newtonian, Post-Newtonian, Relativistic (with Cliff Will).

Together will Mairi Sakellariadou (this opens in a new tab) from King’s College London, Eric Poisson will share the responsibilities of an Editor-in-Chief and further develop the journal with the help of an excellent Editorial Board (this opens in a new tab)!
