General Relativity and Gravitation - Call for papers: Hyperboloidal methods

We solicit submissions for a Topical Collection (this opens in a new tab) on "Hyperboloidal foliations in the era of gravitational-wave astronomy: from mathematical relativity to astrophysics" of the journal General Relativity and Gravitation

In recent years, hyperboloidal methods have emerged as effective tools in the field of black-hole perturbation theory, finding wide-ranging applications in various areas, including the computation of long-time wave equations, quasi-normal modes, effective-one-body formalism, and self-force. Over the past decade, significant advancements have been made in computing generic solutions to nonlinear Einstein equations on hyperboloidal surfaces. These developments have propelled the field forward, enabling researchers to gain deeper insights into the behavior of black holes. The multidisciplinary nature of hyperboloidal methods have allowed for fruitful collaboration between mathematical relativity, numerical relativity and astrophysics, paving the way for further breakthroughs in our understanding of gravitational phenomena.

This topical collection aims to provide a review of the current state-of-the-art in the field, and lays out open problems on the way towards solving Einstein’s equations numerically in the non-linear regime.

Based on contributions from the "Infinity on a Gridshell" workshop (this opens in a new tab) held in Copenhagen, 10 – 13 July 2023. This collection is not a conference proceeding, and it is not limited to research presented at the workshop. All submissions must be complete original papers that meet the regular quality requirements of the journal.
