The discovery and interpretation of meaningful patterns in data is allowing applying data patterns towards effective decision making in several fields. Decision makers may apply analytics to the data to describe, predict, and improve performance. However, since analytics require extensive computation, proper algorithms and software tools are necessary in order to fully exploit the potentialities of data.
This is particularly true in the healthcare domain, where the high uncertainty and stochasticity of data requires to include fair predictions on patients’ evolutions when making medical decisions and managing the different healthcare facilities. This special issue aims at providing an opportunity to discuss analytics and optimization issues in healthcare systems, to propose new approaches, and to present applications of innovative approaches in real facilities.
Selected papers from the Fourth International Conference on Health Care System Engineering (HCSE 2019) (https://symposia.cirrelt.ca/hcse2019/en) are welcome, provided that substantial new results are added with respect those published in the Proceedings Book.
Moreover, the call is open also to researchers who did not attend the conference.
The special issue includes, but not limited to, the following topics.
Medical Decision Aid
Analytics and big data in the Health Domain
Modelling, Simulation and Optimization in Healthcare Organizations
Modelling, Simulation and Optimisation in Patient Care
Hospital Drug Logistics
Appointment booking and scheduling
