Empirical Software Engineering - The open science initiative of Empirical Software Engineering

EMSE is introducing an open science initiative.  Read the full editorial article at: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10664-019-09712-x (this opens in a new tab)

The EMSE Open Science Initiative will be implemented in a minimally intrusive manner without changing existing reviewing processes. All submissions will undergo the same, rigorous review process regardless of whether authors decide to disclose their data and materials or not.

When a paper reaches the final stages of its review process, authors are encouraged to submit a replication package, which will undergo a separate review by one member of an open science board. Two members of our editorial board act as open science chairs to coordinate the process between the authors and the open science board reviewer.

The reviews are made according to a review guideline dedicated to replication packages. The process is single-blinded, same as the review process of manuscripts.

The detailed reference documentation of the open science peer review process can be found at https://github.com/emsejournal/openscience/ (this opens in a new tab).

We cordially invite the community to join us in this endeavour and to actively shape it with contributions and active participation in the corresponding online community: http://bit.ly/emse-osi-group (this opens in a new tab).
