Journal of Elasticity

The Physical and Mathematical Science of Solids

Publishing model:

Overview

Journal of Elasticity is a scholarly publication that promotes mechanics as a fundamental and applied science and is committed to communicating significant discoveries in the physical and mathematical science of solids.

  • Reports original research in linear elasticity, nonlinear elasticity, and deformation coupled to heat and mass transport, chemical reactions, and electromagnetism.
  • Includes studies of material defects, phase transformations, fracture, plasticity, scale effects, homogenization, discrete-to-continuum coarse-graining, and dimensional reduction.
  • Publishes full research papers, research notes, historical essays, classroom notes that serve as effective teaching materials, and review articles.
  • Features occasional dedicated collections of invited papers in emerging/cross-disciplinary areas such as chemomechanics, biomechanics, optomechanics, geomechanics, and polymer science.
  • Offers free full colour printing and the possibility to publish papers open access.

  • Call for Papers - Mechanics of Growth and Remodeling in Biology

Guest Editors: Paola Nardinocchi, Eric Puntel & Giuseppe Zurlo
    Submission deadline: 15 May 2024

This Special Issue celebrates and recognizes the fruitful, two-way interplay between mechanics and growth in biology by providing an up-to-date state of the art and, in the spirit of the Journal of Elasticity, use the occasion to reflect on the methods and concepts employed.

  • Call for Papers - Liquid Crystal Elastomers and Their Theory

Guest Editors: L. Angela Mihai & Carl D. Modes
    Submission deadline: 31 July 2024

This Special Issue invites research contributions on LCEs that can illuminate some of their key theoretical aspects. The Special Issue is particularly dedicated to the memory of Professor Mark Warner, who pioneered the theory of LCEs.

  • Forthcoming Special Issue - Pioneering Ideas, Formulations, and Techniques in Modern Continuum Mechanics – In Memory of Jerald Laverne Ericksen

Guest Editors: Roger Fosdick, Chi-Sing Man & Eliot Fried
This Special Issue contains a collection of papers written by globally recognized experts on various aspects of mechanics. In addition to papers that present current research findings, the volume includes works that summarize and explain the relevance of Prof. Jerrald Ericksen's seminal works on the theories of rods, plates, shells, liquid crystals, anisotropic fluids, crystallography, material defects, phase transitions, boundary conditions and loading devices, and null Lagrangians.
