BIT was started by Carl Erik Fröberg in 1961. The name is an acronym for "Tidskrift för Informationsbehandling" read backwards. From the outset, a wide area of computer science and technology was covered, but since 1992 the focus has been on Numerical Mathematics.

Aims and Scope
BIT publishes original research papers in the rapidly developing field of numerical analysis. The essential areas covered by BIT are development and analysis of numerical methods as well as the design and use of algorithms for scientific computing. Topics emphasized by BIT include numerical methods in approximation, linear algebra, and ordinary and partial differential equations.

  • Covers the development and analysis of numerical methods as well as the design and use of algorithms for scientific computing.
  • Emphasizes numerical methods in approximation, linear algebra, and ordinary and partial differential equations.

  • COVID-19 and impact on peer review

As a result of the significant disruption that is being caused by the COVID-19 pandemic we are very aware that many researchers will have difficulty in meeting the timelines associated with our peer review process during normal times.  Please do let us know if you need additional time. Our systems will continue to remind you of the original timelines but we intend to be highly flexible at this time.
