Journal updates

  • Biogeochemistry is now fully open access!

We are excited to announce that Biogeochemistry  has now become a fully open access (OA) journal as of January 2024. This means that we will only be publishing articles as Open Access meaning content will be and freely available to readers worldwide, enabling the widest possible dissemination and reuse.

  • Early-Career Researchers

We’re happy to announce that we are creating an early-career researchers’ (ECR) board comprising of postdocs and late-stage Ph.D. students. The aim is for ECR’s to develop their skills as peer-reviewers under the guidance of experienced Associate Editors of the Biogeochemistry board.

  • Interview with the Editor-in-Chief, Kate Lajtha

Why is the journal important to the field?

Biogeochemistry is a relatively new and highly interdisciplinary field of science that explores the connections between the biotic and abiotic world.

  • Biogeochemistry Letters

A fast-track review process is available for high-profile manuscripts that present results that substantially advance the field or challenge entrenched ideas.  Letters are expected to present new information in a concise format and appeal to a broad audience

  • Synthesis and Emerging Ideas

To complement traditional articles published in Biogeochemistry and those published in the Biogeochemistry Letters section, we also consider contributions representing a more theoretical and/or synthetic approach as part of the Synthesis and Emerging Ideas section. We invite authors to submit papers that will advance the field of biogeochemistry by challenging fundamental concepts, describing new tools, or offering novel hypotheses prompted by extant literature or new datasets.

  • Topical Collections (Alternative of Special Issues): General Information

Biogeochemistry encourages the publication of Topical Collections. The preparation of a Proposal is handled and decided upon by the Editors-in-Chief. Guest Editor(s) should prepare a proposal for their Topical Collection and submit it to the Editors-in-Chief and the publisher (Arya Ramachandran Nair, email: arya.ramachandran@springernature.com) for their approval.
