Astrophysics and Space Science - New Associate Editor: Prof. Josep Maria Trigo Rodríguez
August 2023
Dr. Trigo-Rodriguez' current research focuses on the formation of solar system minor bodies (comets and asteroids) and the study of their meteorites as they reach Earth. He leads laboratory experiments using meteorites to study the physical properties of chondritic asteroids, and their reflectance properties.
He is specialized in the study of chondrites, their composition and properties, including their role in transporting water to Earth. He was involved in the NASA Stardust sample-return mission and NASA's DART probe. In the field of planetary defense he created the Spanish Fireball and Meteorite Recovery Network (SPMN-CSIC) to study the interaction of large meteoroids with the Earth’s atmosphere. In that framework he participated in the recovery of several meteorites in Spain and Latin America.
