June 2023

Astrophysics and Space Science is pleased to welcome Dr. Elisa M. Alessi and Prof. Dhruba J. Saikia to its Editorial Board

Dr. Elisa Maria Alessi

Elisa Maria Alessi works as a researcher at the Institute for Applied Mathematics and Information Technologies of the National Research Council in Italy.

She graduated in Physics from the University of Padova in Italy and obtained the Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Barcelona in Spain, funded by a Marie Curie fellowship.

Her research focuses on the application of dynamical systems theory on orbital mechanics problems, with special emphasis on the role of natural perturbations on the design of disposal strategies for satellites orbiting the Earth, and on the exploitation of the third-body effect for the design of interplanetary trajectories.

Prof. Dhruba Saikia

Dhruba J Saikia was a Professor at the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) where he worked for over 40 years, and now heads the Teaching Learning Centre and the National Resource Centre at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA). His research interests are on different aspects of extragalactic astronomy and astrophysics, especially active galaxies, and more recently on education, with an emphasis on higher education.

Besides TIFR and IUCAA, he has been engaged in research and/or teaching at the Jodrell Bank Observatory of the University of Manchester; National Radio Astronomy Observatory USA; Queen's University at Kingston, Canada; Australia Telescope National Facility (CASS) of CSIRO Australia; the University of Western Australia and Savitribai Phule Pune University and Cotton University, India. He has published over 150 research papers in leading journals and a similar number in conference proceedings, and co-edited two volumes: Low-Frequency Radio Universe published by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific in 2009 and Fluid Flows to Black Holes, A tribute to S Chandrasekhar on His Birth Centenary published by World Scientific in 2013. He was the Founding Vice-Chancellor of Cotton University at Guwahati. He was awarded the Professor M K Vainu Bappu Gold Medal of the Astronomical Society of India and is a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India.

Among his varied interests he is also a keen birder.
