Astrophysics and Space Science - New Associate Editor: Prof. Dr. Emilia Kilpua

January 2022

“I am professor at the University of Helsinki (UH), Finland. After receiving my PhD in 2005 from UH I spent three years as a postdoc at the Space Sciences Laboratory of UC Berkeley. My research field is space physics and the key focus of my studies is on solar eruptions, solar wind, space weather and radiation belts. My strongest expertise is in data analysis, but I am involved in several projects related to modelling of solar corona and heliosphere.

I am/have been involved in a number of research projects and big international consortiums, including being PI of the ERC Consolidator grant project and Team Leader in Academy of Finland Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Space. Since 2021 I have been the coordinator of the H2020 Marie Curie Innovative Training Network SWATNet that educates 12 Phd students in the field of heliosphysics and space weather.

I am also otherwise active in education, I have supervised a number of BSc, MSc and Phd thesis works and I am the current chair of Doctoral Programme in Particle Physics and Universe Sciences at UH.”
