Andrew completed his PhD at the University of Melbourne in Australia where his research focused on endothelial cell dysfunction associated with diabetic retinopathy. He was then an American Cancer Society post-doctoral fellow and Instructor with Michael Klagsbrun in the Vascular Biology Program (VBP) at Harvard Medical School/Children's Hospital Boston. The VBP was formerly headed by Judah Folkman, a pioneer in angiogenesis research. Andrew is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology at the University of Virginia and a member of the Emily Couric Cancer Center. His lab is focused on mechanisms of angiogenesis, endothelial cell heterogeneity, and understanding how maladapted tumor vasculature contributes to tumor progression, metastasis, and responses to therapy.
