These should be presented in non-technical language and not repeat verbatim text found in the abstract. They should be placed beneath the abstract under the heading of ‘Article Highlights’.

  • Preparing your manuscript

The electronic version should include the original source (including all style files and figures) and a PostScript version of the compiled submission.

  • Formulae, symbols and all subscripts, superscripts, Greek letters and other characters must be legible and carefully checked. Standard mathematical notation should be used:

    - Single letters that denote mathematical constants, variables, and unknown quantities should be set in italic type in text and in equations.

    - Numerals, operators, and punctuation should be set in Roman type (upright), as are commonly defined functions or abbreviations, e.g., cos, det, e or exp, lim, log, max, min, sin, tan, d (for derivative) should also be upright.

    - Vectors, tensors, and matrices should be set in an alternative typeface such as bold italic or simply bold.

The preferred figure formats are EPS for vector graphics exported from a drawing program and TIFF for halftone illustrations. EPS files must always contain a preview in TIFF of the figure. The file name (one file for each figure) should include the figure number. Figure legends should be included in the text and not in the figure file.

    - Scan resolution: Scanned line drawings should be digitized with a minimum resolution of 1200 dpi relative to the final figure sire. For digital halftones, 300 dpi is usually sufficient.

    - Color illustrations: Store color illustrations as RGB (8 bits per channel) in TIFF format.

    - Vector graphics: Fonts used in the vector graphics must be embedded. Please do not draw with hairlines. The minimum line width is 0.2 mm (i.e., 0.567 pt) relative to the final size.

Electronic supplementary material

Electronic supplementary material (ESM) for an article in the journal will be published in SpringerLink provided the material is submitted to the Editor(s) in electronic form together with the paper and is subject to peer review accepted by the journals Editor(s) ESM may consist of information that cannot be printed: animations, videoclips, sound recordings information that is more convenient in electronic form: sequences, spectral data, etc.large original data that relate to the paper, e.g. additional tables, illustrations (color and black & white), etc.

After acceptance by the journals Editor(s) ESM will be published as received from the author in the online version only. Reference will be given in the printed version.

Research Data Policy

This journal operates a type 1 research data policy. The journal encourages authors, where possible and applicable, to deposit data that support the findings of their research in a public repository. Authors and editors who do not have a preferred repository should consult Springer Nature’s list of repositories and research data policy.

List of Repositories

Research Data Policy

General repositories - for all types of research data - such as figshare and Dryad may also be used.

Datasets that are assigned digital object identifiers (DOIs) by a data repository may be cited in the reference list. Data citations should include the minimum information recommended by DataCite: authors, title, publisher (repository name), identifier.

DataCite

If the journal that you’re submitting to uses double-blind peer review and you are providing reviewers with access to your data (for example via a repository link, supplementary information or data on request), it is strongly suggested that the authorship in the data is also blinded. There are data repositories that can assist with this and/or will create a link to mask the authorship of your data.

Authors who need help understanding our data sharing policies, help finding a suitable data repository, or help organising and sharing research data can access our Author Support portal for additional guidance.

Proofreading

When your paper is nearing publication, a page proofs will be sent to you. It is for proof purposes only and may not be used by third parties.

The Corresponding Author of an accepted manuscript will receive e mail notification (from Science China Press) and download the e proof PDF (with a ”author check” URL link) or use the online correction facilities for review. Please return all corrections by uploading them via the ‘Submit’ tab or replying to this email. Please ensure you click Reply to All if you choose to respond by email. Without your response to these queries, we may not be able to continue with the processing of your article for Online Publication. Corrected proofs should be returned within 2 working days in order to ensure timely publication of the manuscript.

Offprints

50 offprints of each contribution are supplied free of charge. If you wish to order additional offprints you must return the order form with the corrected proofs. You are then entitled to receive a pdf file of your article for your own personal use.
