Call for Papers: Special Issue on Variational analysis and applications to sustainable production processes and decarbonized energy systems

Aims and scope

Recently, there has been a sharp increase in interest in variational inequalities and quasi-variational inequalities. They are now one of the most challenging and dynamic topics of mathematics and represent excellent tools in the study of real-world problems. They cover a large variety of applications of extreme importance related to computer science, engineering, statistics, economics, logistics, financial networks. In addition, Nash equilibrium and Generalized Nash equilibrium problems, naturally associated with variational inequalities and quasi-variational inequalities, respectively, experienced a surprising development. This leads to finding effective solutions to until now unsolved problems in numerous real-life situations, such as energy economics, environmental problems, network problems, and infrastructure problems. The aim of the special issue is to collect both theoretical and computational issues, present results having the potential of solving concrete problems, and thus try to fill the gap between theory and practice.

  • Risk management in electricity markets.

Paper submission and review

This Special Issue seeks to publish novel research and reflect the most recent advances on the latest contributions on the above areas, covering new modeling techniques and formulations, as well as innovative case studies. Contributions will be selected through a refereeing process consistent with the standard international reviewing process. Only original contributions of the highest quality will be included. The Special Issue should be of benefit to policy-makers and researchers worldwide, wherever there is a need to overcome challenges, design policy options, strive for new technological breakthroughs and seek investment opportunities towards a new era of energy transition.

All papers must be written in English. Papers should be submitted electronically using the Computational Management Science submission system and following the instructions for authors. When submitting, authors are requested to choose “S.I.: Variational analysis and applications” to indicate that the paper is intended for this special issue.

Guest editors will make an initial determination of the suitability and scope of all submissions. The submissions will be blind reviewed by at least two reviewers.
