Marine Biotechnology - Genomics in Aquaculture 2024 Symposium

The Genomics in Aquaculture (GIA) symposium is an international conference that focuses on presenting the latest research findings related to genomics research in aquaculture. It was first held in 2009 and has taken place every two years since then. GIA aims to present research results applying state-of-the-art -omics technologies in aquaculture, bearing in mind that aquaculture is one of the fastest-growing food production sectors in the world and is not limited to fish farms, but also includes bivalve mollusks, crustaceans, and algae. However, despite the amazing progress in the development of genomic resources over the last decade, molecular tools to improve aquaculture practices are still not widely available and as a result the application of genomics in aquaculture is still in its early stages and the research community in this area is scattered. GIA covers a broad range of research fields applying cutting-edge -omics tools at various levels and aims to bring together leading experts, researchers, and industry professionals in the exciting and rapidly growing field of genomics in aquaculture, fostering networking, sharing ideas, and interdisciplinary collaborations. The focus of the special issue will be state-of-the-art articles presented during the GIA conference covering the main -omics technologies applied to investigate research hypotheses related to aquaculture topics.
