Society & Partner Zone Issue 11, Regional Highlights

A closer look at Springer's partnership with EFORT

Cooperative Publishing with Springer: Society Zone explores our strategic partnership with the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT) and highlights the range of publishing projects in development

The European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT) is the umbrella organization that links Europe‘s national orthopaedic and traumatology associations. EFORT aims to reflect the will of all the participating associations to promote the exchange of scientific knowledge and experience in the field of prevention and both the conservative and surgical treatment of diseases and injuries concerning the musculo-skeletal system. Particular emphasis is placed upon research and activities focusing on harmonizing orthopaedics and musculo-skeletal traumatology in Europe through education.

Following complex research and discussions, an exclusive collaboration was formed between EFORT and Springer to develop a wide range of publishing projects in orthopaedics, including the EFORT’s journal, a major reference work, and a book series, as well as to develop an e-learning component for their portal.

This partnership between EFORT and Springer will increase the amount of high-quality diagnostic, treatment, management and research information available to orthopaedic specialists in Europe and throughout the world. EFORT’s work will be distributed to a wide audience of healthcare professionals through Springer’s dynamic online platform, SpringerLink.com.

Professor Wolfhart Puhl, EFORT Past President

Professor Wolfhart Puhl states “Our aim and duty is to provide care to those suffering from musculoskeletal disorders and injuries throughout Europe, at a level of high quality reflecting the latest findings. A major pre-requisite for this are well-trained physicians with a high level of scientific knowledge. EFORT’s publishing program will contribute to this training and Springer, with over 165 years of publishing experience and expertise, will help us to accomplish our goal.”

The official journal of the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology is European Orthopaedics and Traumatology, and the first issue is scheduled for release for June 2010 on the occasion of the annual EFORT meeting in Madrid, Spain.

European Instructional Lectures

  • European Instructional Lectures, Volume 10, edited by George Bentley contains individual lectures on orthopaedics and trauma topics from the 10th EFORT Congress in Vienna, Austria. This book contains essential information for trainees and the latest information on the developments in the field. Volume 9 was published in 2009 and further volumes are planned for each forthcoming EFORT congress.
