Highlights in Law 2018

Looking back at the past year to inspire the future: Springer's Editorial Team share a selection of the top downloaded books & articles in 2018, together with their outlook on 2019.

Executive Editor, Dr. Brigitte Reschke on 2018

The year 2018 saw a number of major challenges for European and International law. In May, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force and kept companies both in and outside the EU busy. Brexit required significant attention and even now is still under negotiation; the withdrawal procedure still needs major agreements on different levels. Later in the year, the COP24 Climate change negotiations in Katowice highlighted the challenges we face trying to implement and monitor all dimensions of the Paris Agreement under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. On December 10, the international community celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This milestone coincided with the adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration in Marrakech that is described by the UN Secretary-General António Guterres as the creation of a “roadmap to prevent suffering and chaos”.

We, the Law Publishing Editors at Springer, cover these contemporary topics in our broad portfolio. Moreover, we  provide the platform for researchers and practitioners to connect across the different areas within law and other disciplines in their publications. Since the demand for European and international publications in law as well as for interdisciplinary publications is growing, we will continue this approach in 2019.
We look forward to working on exciting publication projects in the year to come! You are invited to contact us with any of your next publishing ideas at Brigitte.Reschke@springernature.com.
