About this book

This book demonstrates the use of a wide range of strategic engineering concepts, theories and applied case studies to improve the safety, security and sustainability of complex and large-scale engineering and computer systems. It first details the concepts of system design, life cycle, impact assessment and security to show how these ideas can be brought to bear on the modeling, analysis and design of information systems with a focused view on cloud-computing systems and big data analytics. This informative book is a valuable resource for graduate students, researchers and industry-based practitioners working in engineering, information and business systems as well as strategy.

Dr Muthu Ramachandran’s career started as a research scientist at India Space Research Labs where he worked on real-time systems development projects. Muthu is an author of two books: Software Components: Guidelines and Applications (Nova Publishers, NY, USA, 2008) and Software Security Engineering: Design and Applications (Nova Publishers, NY, USA, 2011). He is also an edited co-author of a book, Handbook of Research in Software Engineering (IGI, 2010) and has edited the book KE for SDLC (2011). He has authored many published journal articles, book chapters and conferences materials on various advanced topics in software engineering and education. He received his Master's from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and from Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, India. He is a member of various professional organizations and computer societies: IEEE, ACM, Fellow of BCS, and Fellow of HEA. He was invited as a speaker to the 5th international symposium on SOA Cloud 2012, London.

Dr Amin Hosseinian Far is currently a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader in the Faculty of Arts, Environment and Technology at Leeds Beckett University. He received his BSc (Hons) in Business Information Systems from the University of East London, an MSc degree in Satellite Communication and Space Systems from the University of Sussex, a Postgraduate Certificate in Research and a PhD degree titled ’A Systemic Approach to an Enhanced Model for Sustainability’ from the University of East London. He has held lecturing and research positions at the University of East London, and at a number of private HE institutions and strategy research firms in London. Prior to joining Leeds Beckett University, Dr Hosseinian-Far worked as Deputy Director of Studies at a large private higher education institute in London. Dr Hosseinian Far is a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA).

Dr Dilshad Sarwar is Senior Lecturer and Course Leader in the School of Computing, Creative Technologies & Engineering at Leeds Beckett University. Dr Sarwar's PhD was gained from the Leeds Beckett University titled:  “Critical Race Theory – A Phenomenological Approach to Social Inclusion of BME Non-Traditional Students”. Dilshad has a Postgraduate Certificate in Research, MA in Education Management from the Open University and MSc Information Systems from the University of Leeds. Dr Sarwar is a Senior Fellow of the HEA and a University Teaching Fellow.  Dr Sarwar’s current research is broadly within Information Systems as a discipline with a focused research interests in the social influences and domains of Internet of Things and disaster management systems, which entails social computing and managing information in the digital age.
