Interview with Max Haring, Publishing Editor SpringerPlus
What is SpringerPlus?
SpringerPlus is our new open access journal that will publish scientific research from all disciplines of Science, Technology and Medicine (STM). SpringerPlus is part of the SpringerOpen portfolio and will offer easy submission, fast processing and low-effort publication. SpringerPlus will have 14 major sections and around 180 subsections. Our editorial board includes such renowned and respected academics as Professor Jochen Graw of the Helmholtz Center Munich (Section Editor for Biomedical and Life Sciences), Professor Bradley Fahlman of Central Michigan University (Section Editor for Chemistry and Materials Science) and Professor Lakhmi Jain of the University of South Australia (Section Editor for Engineering).
Why is SpringerPlus different from other journals?
Publishing your findings is an essential part of research and we believe there should be as little barriers as possible. Too often it takes a lot of time, effort and several lengthy resubmissions before an article is accepted. SpringerPlus is not like that. We aim to be predictable, fast and low-effort for our authors while still maintaining the high quality readers expect from Springer. After all, all good science is worth publishing!
Why should authors consider submitting to SpringerPlus?
SpringerPlus publishes good quality research fast and with little effort. Our authors save time and resources by not having to reformat their work: we are able to accept manuscripts already formatted for another journal. Researchers are also encouraged to submit review reports from previous journals as these may speed up the SpringerPlus review process. SpringerPlus also practices a clear editorial decision policy: accept or reject only. Although minor changes to the manuscript may be required, we will never ask an author to spend months performing additional research before an article can be accepted. In addition, SpringerPlus benefits the research community by reducing the burden put on reviewers and by facilitating publication of research that is difficult to publish in specialized journals.
Which manuscripts can be submitted to SpringerPlus?
Essentially all types of research are suitable for publication in SpringerPlus: we will be the first inclusive scope Open Access journal for all disciplines in STM. SpringerPlus won’t reject articles because the subject is deemed out of scope, unfashionable, a niche field or unable to attract citations. The only thing necessary for SpringerPlus is that manuscripts are scientifically and methodologically sound when judged by our academic editors and peer-reviewers.
