This book is the second edition of Atlas of Oral Microbiology: From Healthy Microflora to Disease (ISBN 978-0-12-802234-4), with two new features: we add about 60 pictures of 14 newly isolated microbes from human dental plaque, at the same time, we re-organize the content of this book and provide more research progress about the oral microbiome bank of China, the invasion of oral microbiota into the gut, and the relationships between Oral Microflora and Human Diseases.

This book is keeping up with the advanced edge of the international research field of oral microbiology. It innovatively gives us a complete description of the oral microbial systems according to different oral ecosystems. It collects a large number of oral microbial pictures, including cultural pictures, colonies photos, and electron microscopy photos. It is by far the most abundant oral microbiology atlas consists of the largest number of pictures. In the meantime, it also described in detail a variety of experimental techniques, including microbiological isolation, culture, and identification. It is an atlas with strong practical function.

About the editors

Dr. Xuedong Zhou is a professor at West China College of Stomatology, Sichuan University, and the Director of State Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases. She also serves as member of Disciplinary Appraisal Panels the State Council; Colleges and Universities Teaching stomatology Steering Committee, as well as the Vice-Chair of Chinese Stomatological Association and Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Associate Chair of Cariology and Endodontics Committee of Chinese Stomatological Society, Chair of Sichuan Stomatological Association; Fellow of International College of Dentists; Dean of The Autonomous ICD Section XIII-China; Chief Editor of Bone Research, International Journal of Oral Science, West China Journal of Stomatology, Yearbook of Chinese Stomatology and Chinese Journal of Stomatological Information. Dr. Zhou focuses her research on basic and clinical study of caries etiology and prevention. As the project leader, she undertakes project design and overall responsibility for projectimplementation. She has published more than 100 articles, and has edited “Oral Microbiology and Technology”, “Practical Therapeutics of dental disease”, “Atlas of Oral Microbiology” and other 8 monographs.
