Call for editor(s) of a Special Issue of the Mathematics Education Research Journal 

This is a call for academics, either individually or in a team, to edit a special issue of the Mathematics Education Research Journal that will explicate some key theories or frameworks that inform mathematics education research. The premise is that any research exploring aspects of the practice of teaching and learning mathematics, in classrooms and elsewhere, can benefit by building on established theories. Therefore, it would assist current and prospective researchers in mathematics education to access some articles about theoretical perspectives and results. These theories may be drawn from mathematics education, education, philosophy, psychology, sociology or other domains.
The intent of the special issue is to invite researchers from the respective theoretical perspectives to propose a contribution to the journal, of the size and quality of international journal articles. Members of the Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia are invited to reply.
The respective contributions to the special issue could:
- be of around 9000 words, submitted through the Springer system, written in the MERJ style and reviewed by three reviewers;
- explain the theory, relative to related theories, and what it means and offers for mathematics education;
- discuss whether and how the theoretical perspective has been productively applied in mathematics education research;
- review examples where the theory has been used in mathematics education research (especially by Australasian researchers where applicable);
- outline future directions within this theoretical perspective to open, strengthen or enrich lines of inquiry concerning students’ mathematics learning.
Prospective editors, either individually or as a team, are invited to submit a proposal to peter.sullivan@monash.edu by November 1st 2015. The proposal should be brief and outline the editorial qualifications of the editor(s), the process for soliciting articles, suggestions additional to the ones above for foci for the special issue. It is hoped that the special issue will be published as the first issue in 2017.

    The Mathematics Education Research Journal seeks to promote high quality research that is of interest to the international community.  

    The Mathematics Education Research Journal seeks to present research that promotes new knowledge, ideas, methodologies and epistemologies in the field of mathematics education.   

    The Mathematics Education Research Journal actively seeks to promote research from the Australasian region either as research conducted in the region; conducted by researchers from the region and/or draws on research from the region.  The Mathematics Education Research Journal accepts papers from authors from all regions internationally but authors must draw on the extensive research that has been produced in the Australasian region.  

    The Mathematics Education Research Journal normally does not encourage publication of teacher education programs or courses. These are more suited for theother MERGA journal, Mathematics Teacher Education and Development

    For Authors

    Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published before (except in form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture, review or thesis); that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as – tacitly or explicitly – by the responsible authorities at the institution where the work was carried out.

Acknowledgement needs to be given to the final publication and a link must be inserted to the published article on Springer's website, accompanied by the text "The final publication is available at springerlink.com". Author retains the right to use his/her article for his/her further scientific career by including the final published journal article in other publications such as dissertations and postdoctoral qualifications provided acknowledgement is given to the original source of publication.

    Author is requested to use the appropriate DOI for the article. Articles disseminated via www.springerlink.com are indexed, abstracted and referenced by many abstracting and information services, bibliographic networks, subscription agencies, library networks, and consortia.
