About the Editors

Prof. Dr. Dar-Hao Chen 


After receiving his doctoral degree from the University of Oklahoma in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical), Dr. Chen has been working for the Texas Department Transportation’s headquarter in Austin, Texas (USA) for more than 15 years. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Oklahoma (USA), Shandong University (China) and Changsa University (China). He serves on several Transportation Research Board committees, namely, AFH30: Emerging Technologies for Design and Construction; AFS90: Chemical and Mechanical Stabilization, and AFS50: Modeling Techniques in Geomechanics. Dr. Chen is the founding president of GeoChina Civil Infrastructure Association, USA. He served as a co-chair and secretary general of 2009 and 2011 GeoHunan International Conference, 2014 GeoHubei International Conference, and 2016 GeoChina International Conference. He has published more than 100 papers in SCI-indexed journals, edited six ASCE Geotechnical special publications, and holds five patents in China related to material testing, rehabilitation, and construction of pavements.

Prof. Dr. Eng. Khalid M. El-Zahaby 


Dr. El-Zahaby graduated from the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University (Egypt) in 1985 with honors. He obtained his M.Sc. from Cairo University in 1989 and his Ph.D. from Civil Engineering Department in North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC (USA) in 1995. Upon graduation, he joined the Housing and Building National Research Center (HBRC) as a research assistant and was promoted in different positions. He is currently the HBRC Chairman. Dr. El-Zahaby is the recipient of the 2013 ICC Global Award of Atlantic City, NJ (USA) and has been a geotechnical consultant for almost 30 years. He is currently serving as an assessor for geotechnical consultants in Egypt. Dr. El-Zahaby is also the Principal Investigator of a research project funded by the STDF (Egypt) and NSF (USA) on the assessment of seismic hazards on wind turbines.

Dr. Eng. Hany Farouk Shehata 

Managing/Executive Editor

Dr. Shehata is the founder and CEO of the Soil-Structure Interaction Group in Egypt (SSIGE). He is also a partner and vice-president of EHE-Consulting Group in the Middle East. He worked in the field of Civil Engineering early, while studying, with Bechtel Egypt Contracting & PM Company, LLC. His professional experience includes working in culverts, small tunnels, pipe installation, earth reinforcement, soil stabilization, and small bridges. Dr. Shehata has been also involved in teaching, research, and consulting. His areas of specialization include static and dynamic soil-structure interactions involving buildings, roads, water structures, retaining walls, earth reinforcement, and bridges, as well as, different disciplines of project management and contract administration. He is the author of an Arabic practical book titled “Practical Solutions for Different Geotechnical Works: The Practical Engineers’ Guidelines.” He is currently working on a new book titled “Soil-Foundation-Superstructure Interaction: Structural Integration” to be published by Springer. He is the contributor of more than 50 publications in national and international conferences and journals. Dr. Shehata served as a co-chair of the GeoChina-2016 International Conference in Shandong, China. He is currently serving as a co-chair and secretary general of the GeoMEast-2017 International Conference in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, which will be supported by Springer.

    Aims and Scope



    The journal aims to present innovative studies serving the general disciplines of the sustainable infrastructures and geotechnical engineering. This journal also has a special intention to help the worldwide countries to develop their existing and new infrastructures in terms of mitigating and adapting to Climate Change. Worldwide engineers are invited to submit their contributions, and to transfer the knowledge between the worldwide researchers. This journal accepts Technical notes, Technical papers, Review paper, and State-of-the-art papers. Theoretical papers are welcomed, but there should be a clear and significant potential for practical application of the theory. Practice-oriented papers and case studies are particularly welcomed and encouraged.
