Our mutual home, planet Earth and its Environment, needs protection especially from any source of anthropogenic or other harmful effects that may affect its delicate natural balance. The key activities for this purpose are close observations, measurements, models and forecasts of different systematic and interactive components including the atmosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere by means of scientific methodologies coupled with technological advances.
In order to achieve this goal King Abdulaziz University (KAU) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia has launched a new journal in partnership with Springer titled Earth Systems and Environment, which will start its publishing life by welcoming those authors who are specialized in the title subjects and specifically in the areas of interest including, but not limited to, the following topics:
Environmental geology, Earth science related environmental issues, marine sciences, ecosystem sustainability, desertification, air, water and soil quality, geo- and environmental hazards, hydrosphere and hydrogeology, lithosphere and troposphere dynamics, numerical models of earth systems, geographical information systems (GIS), remote sensing, environment related chemical and physical hazards in health, microbiological hazards in health, Earth resource-friendly exploitation and sustainability, Earth system change and variability, engineering aspects related to the Earth sciences environment, Earth sciences data mining and geostatistics, innovative regional issues, Earth science related environmental adaptation and mitigation, verbal (fuzzy) objective environment related earth science ramifications, management of Earth sciences and environmental data, information in databases and systems.

Among the main goals of Earth Systems and Environment are growth and innovation across all these relevant topics so as to keep the scientific community vibrant and informed with top-quality contributions.
The journal’s Editorial Board is pleased to invite you to submit peer-reviewed original scientific research papers, review articles, technical notes, broad reports, case studies, and brief communications and discussions of regional and international significance.
We look forward to reading your valuable contributions, which will enhance and broaden the scientific communication among specialists all over the world.
King Abdulaziz University (KAU) has provided generous support and awards for authors of the best papers. The winning authors receive the KAU Medal and a small token of our appreciation.

A new special issue in Earth Systems and Environment on the best papers presented at SP3C-2017 in GCISC-Islamabad, Pakistan 2017

The Science Policy Conference on Climate Change (SP3C-2017) was held in Islamabad, Pakistan on December 18-20, 2017. This Conference was organized by the Global Change Impact Studies Centre (GCISC), in collaboration with COMSATS, Higher Education Commission (HEC), the University of Utah - USA, the US-Pakistan Centre for Advanced Studies in Water at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro (USPCAS-W), Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), and Heinrich BöllStiftung (HBS). The Conference was attended by more than 850 participants representing international and national research organizations, academia, government, media, law, parliamentarians and civil society. The financial support was being provided to Pakistani researchers working abroad and involved in high quality research. The Conference comprised of 45 technical research workshops arranged in 5 parallel sessions covering the themes on Climate Science, Climate & Water, Agriculture & Food Security, Impacts & Adaptation and Mitigation & Policy. In addition to this, roundtables & stakeholder side events (9 each), poster competition and an exhibition were also part of the SP3C. The technical sessions, roundtables and side events were chaired by parliamentarians, secretaries to Govt. of Pakistan, eminent scientists andacademicians. The purpose of research workshops was to provide a platform to young researchers to present their latest research findings. Overall, 140 papers were presented in these research workshops. Many well-known researchers from different universities and research institutions shared their knowledge and research findings on the themes mentioned above. A special issue on the best papers presented in the conference will be published in the Earth Systems and Environment journal. Authors of selected papers should click on “S. I. SP3C-2017” during the submission process. The Guest Editor who will manage the evaluation process in consultation with the journal’s Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor is Dr. Tariq Banuri (tariq.banuri@gmail.com).

    Earth Systems & Environment (ESEV)

A new Springer journal published in partnership with
King Abdulaziz University (KAU) in Jeddah, KSA

The Earth Systems and Environment (ESEV) journal publishes peer-reviewed original and review articles on the entire range of Earth systems and environment in order to further our understanding of the natural workings and various processes and interactions that govern the Earth systems in response to complex environmental problems caused by natural and human-induced forcings.

The journal disseminates high-quality information on cutting-edge developments in the various research fields of Earth Systems and environment based on new methods, theories, and applications. It has a multidisciplinary character, focusing on interrelated scientific topics combining diverse aspects of the Earth systems and environment including: the Earth sciences; environmental sciences; Earth and environment related agricultural sciences; natural hazards and engineering; marine sciences; ecology; desertification; pollution; geo-environmental hazards; droughts and floods; hydrosphere, lithosphere and troposphere dynamics; waste management; numerical models of earth systems; geographical information systems; remote sensing; and environmental health.

In order to meaningfully explore these topics, researchers in the environmental Earth science disciplines are invited to contribute their original research and review articles on significant scientific advances in the form of papers, technical notes, broad reports, case studies, reviews, brief communications and discussions.
