Über dieses Buch

This book contributes to a deeper understanding of landscape and regional modelling in general, and its broad range of facets with respect to various landscape parameters. It presents model approaches for a number of ecological and socio-economic landscape indicators, and also describes spatial decision support systems (DSS), frameworks, and model-based tools, which are prerequisites for deriving sustainable decision and solution strategies for the protection of comprehensively functioning landscapes. While it mainly focuses on the latest research findings in regional modelling and DSS in Europe, it also highlights the work of scientists from Russia. The book is intended for landscape modellers, scientists from various fields of landscape research, university teaching staff, and experts in landscape planning and management, landscape conservation and landscape policy.

Über die Autor*innen

Wilfried Mirschel has been a Senior Scientist at the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) Müncheberg, Germany, since 1992. He studied Mathematics at the State University Donetsk, Ukraine, and graduated in 1982 with a doctorate in Agriculture. From 1977 to 1991, he worked at the Research Centre for Soil Fertility Müncheberg. His fields of work include agro-ecosystem modelling, landscape system analysis, regional modelling, model-based climate impact research, complex decision support systems for landscape development, and methods and models for irrigation management. Wilfried Mirschel has authored more than 300 publications, including more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. He has established an international cooperation in the fields of process and regional modeling, and has been involved in education at universities in Germany and Russia. Vitaly Terleev is a Professor at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Russia. He studied Physics at Omsk State University, USSR, graduating in 1989 with a candidate degree in Agricultural Meteorology. He received his Doctor in Agricultural Science (Agrophysics) degree in 2002. From 1991 to 2001, he worked at St. Petersburg State University, and since 2004, he has been working at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. Vitaly Terleev specialises in modelling soil water and soil nutrient processes in agro-ecosystems and in describing hydrophysical soil properties. He has participated in many national and international research projects and has published over 230 papers, including more than 30 peer-reviewed articles, as well as five books. He has established a fruitful international scientific cooperation network and contributes to the work of various organizations and working groups with his knowledge and experience. Karl-Otto Wenkel is a Guest Scientist at the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) Müncheberg, Germany. He studied Melioration and Crop Sciences at the University of Rostock and Agricultural Informatics at the Martin Luther University Halle, Germany. In 1975, he graduated with a doctorate in Agriculture, and in 2004 he became an Honorary Professor at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Russia. From 1971 to 1991, he worked at the Research Centre for Soil Fertility Münchenberg. From 1992 until his retirement in 2013, he was the Head of the Institute of Landscape Systems Analysis at ZALF. He has extensive experience in the fields of integrated landscape modelling, decision support systems, river basin management, irrigation scheduling, and precision agriculture. He has published more than 200 papers, including more than 80 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters.
