About the editor

Walter Leal Filho (B.Sc., Ph.D., D.Sc., D.Phil., D.L., F.R.G.S.,F.R.S.A., F.R.S.B.) is a biologist and has various doctorates in subjects relating to the environment and sustainable development issues. He is Director of the Research and Transfer Centre “Sustainable Development and Climate Change Management” and the “European School of Sustainability Science and Research” at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences in Germany, where he is in charge of a number of European projects. He has authored, coauthored, or edited over 400 publications on the subjects of the environment, sustainable development, and climate change. Professor Leal is also the initiator of the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme (IUSDRP), a network of 128 universities sharing a common interest on sustainability research. He is the founding editor of the International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education and the World Sustainability Series with Springer. He sits on the editorial board of various journals. Professor Leal is fluent in English, German, Portuguese, and Spanish and has a good knowledge of French. He is regarded as one of the world’s leading experts on matters related to sustainable development.
