The Iranian Chemical Society

The Iranian Chemical Society (ICS) started its activities in 1965 and was able to hold many fruitful national and international congresses during 1971-1976. In the Third ICS International Congress (Shiraz, Iran, 1975), several renowned scholars such as Profs R. Belcher, F.A. Cotton, C.S. Marvel, G.P. Haight, R.S. Mulliken and L. Pauling presented their lectures and many other outstanding chemists from over the world participated (Chemistry in Britain, 11, 368, 1975). After the Islamic Revolution in Iran, the activities of the society came to a standstill for few years.
In 1984 the need for a society was stressed by a group of well-known Iranian Chemists. In an ensuring meeting held at the Ministry of Culture and Higher Education (renamed as Ministry of Science, Research and Technology) the above group, designated as the founding board, was appointed to prepare the necessary articles and consider the re-construction of the society. The articles were prepared and ratified by the founding board and the society was renamed as "the Iranian Chemical and Chemical Engineering Society" (which was changed again as the “Iranian Chemical Society” in 1993). The new constitution was ratified in a congress and the members and the ICS senate and its president and board of directors were elected for the first time after revolution.
The ICS currently has the 11 scientific committees including Analytical, Inorganic, Organic, Physical Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Chemometrics, Chemistry and Industry, Chemistry and Environment, Oil and Energy, Chemical Education and Scientific Publications. These committees are completely independent in planning, fund raising, development of strategies for science production and research and educational development and work-shop and operate under the coordination of the board of directors. With the development of the science of chemistry and chemical researches in Iran, the society has felt the need for an international interdisciplinary journal under the title ʺJournal of the Iranian Chemical Societyʺ (JICS), which is now published by Springer with an IF of 1.50. In addition, the ICS has recently established five other journals in the main scientific fields of chemistry named as: Physical Chemistry Research, Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry Research, Inorganic Chemistry Research, Organic Chemistry Research and Nanochemistry Research, which are currently published by ICS.
Today, the Iranian Chemical Society with more than 6000 members is one of the well-known scientific societies in the world. So far, the society has held and sponsored eighteen National and International Congresses and over 120 conferences in different fields of chemistry. The number of participants and papers presented in the latest Congress and Conferences of the ICS is given below, to highlight some of its current scientific activities: 16th National Congress (Yazd University, >3000 participants, 2500 papers), 10th Biennial Electrochemistry Conference (Razi University, 250 participants, 246 papers), 20th Organic Chemistry Conference (Bu-Ali Sina University, 1034 participants, 1034 papers), 8th Chemical Education Conference (Semnan University, 992 participants, 200 papers), 15th Inorganic Chemistry Conference (Hakim Sabzevari University, 458 participants, 408 papers), 6th Chemistry and Environment Seminar (Tabriz University, 1400 participants, 503 papers), 16th Physical Chemistry Conference (Mazandaran University, 460 participants, 644 papers), 4th Biennial Chemometrics Conference (Shiraz University, 250 participants, 300 papers), 20th Analytical Chemistry Conference (Isfahan University of Technology,590 participants, 809 papers).

JICS is an international journal covering general fields of chemistry. JICS welcomes high quality original papers in English dealing with experimental, theoretical and applied research related to all branches of chemistry. These include the fields of analytical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry as well as the chemical biology area. Review articles discussing specific areas of chemistry of current chemical or biological importance are also published. JICS ensures visibility of your research results to a worldwide audience in science. You are kindly invited to submit your manuscript to the Editor-in-Chief or Regional Editor. All contributions in the form of original papers or short communications will be peer reviewed and published free of charge after acceptance.
