Dr. Kairong Hong, professor of engineering, is the general engineer of China Railway Tunnel Group Co., Ltd. and the director of China’s State Key Laboratory of Shield Machine and Boring Technology, named the “Top-notch Young Talent of Science and Technology” and “Outstanding Mid-Aged Expert” of China Railway Engineering Corporation, and “Leading Talents of the National High-level Talents Special Support Program (Ten Thousand Talents). He is entitled to the Special Allowance from the State Council. He has been devoting himself to tunneling and underground space technologies, especially to shield tunneling technologies for years, majoring on shield equipment and shield tunneling. He has won the 7th Jeme Tien Yow Railway Science and Technology Youth Award, the 9th Jeme Tien Yow Achievement Award, 1 first prize and 2 second prizes of National Science and Technology Progress Award, as well as 1 grand prize and 4 first prizes of Provincial/Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Award. He published 4 monographs as the first author and 36 professional papers, patented for 26 invention and 15 national and provincial/ministerial construction methods.
