This book discusses asset life-cycle management, especially, human dimensions on the management of infrastructure and industry-sector assets. 

The book explores advances decision support systems based on the applications of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), machine learning, and digital twinning for monitoring, diagnostics, prognostics. It includes methodologies and cases applied to different operational contexts. 

The book also considers the implications of the applications of international standards, local regulations and industry guidelines to risk and resilience engineering asset operations.

About the editors

Adolfo Crespo Márquez is currently Full Professor at the School of Engineering of the University of Seville, Department of Industrial Management. He holds a Ph.D. with Honors in Industrial Engineering from this same University. He is included in the Stanford University’s list of world top-scientists in 2023 and he received the Spanish Maintenance Award from the Spanish Maintenance Association (AEM) in 2020. With research works published in many top journals, he is the author of 8 books and Editor of 6 books with Springer, Aenor, IGI Global and INGEMAN, about maintenance, warranty, supply chain and assets management. Prof. Crespo is Fellow Director of ISEAM, Editor-in-Chief of EAMR Springer Book Series and led the Spanish Research Network on Assets Management and the Spanish Committee for Maintenance Standardization (1995-2003). He also leads the SIM research group related to smart maintenance systems and has extensively participated in many engineering and consulting projectsfor different companies, for the Spanish Departments of Defense, Science and Education as well as for the European Commission (IPTS). He is the President of INGEMAN (a National Association for the Development of Maintenance Engineering in Spain) since 2002.

Georges Abdul-Nour is an Emeritus Professor at the Department of Industrial engineering, Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, Canada. He received his Bachelors and Master Degrees in IE from the Université de Moncton, N.B.’ Canada. He completed his PhD at Texas Tech University; Lubbock Texas, U.S.A. Dr. Abdul-Nour authored and co-authored 10 books and books chapters, and more than 450-refereed papers in international journals and conferences proceeding, and technical reports. His research interest is in fields such as Intelligent Asset Management, Complexes Systems Resilience, Reliability and Maintenance, Intelligent Manufacturing, I4.0 and I5.0, Lean-Six Sigma, and JIT (TPS). He is a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Production Research (IJPR), and Fellow and Board member of ISEAM. Professor Abdul-Nour is a registered member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec (OIQ). He served as Chair of Engineering School and of Research Institute on Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), (INRPME) at UQTR. He is an Elected Member of the Academy of Industrial Engineering of Texas Tech. Dr. Abdul-Nour hold the HQ/NSERG Research Chair in Asset-Management.

Turuna Seecharan obtained her M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada, specializing in "Robust Design Optimization using Metamodels". She is a licensed Professional Engineer with the Professional Engineers of Ontario and a board member of the International Society of Engineering Asset Management. Presently, she is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Her current research interests are Gamification and the role of Human Factors in Asset Management.

Joe Amadi-Echendu is an Emeritus Professor at the Graduate School of Technology Management, the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment, and Information Technology the University of Pretoria. He specializes in the management of Engineering and Technology and has been consulted on a variety of issues regarding technology commercialization and asset management. Joe continues to apply knowledge and expertise in public and private sector industries. He has co-edited 7 books, sole-authored a book and authored/co-authored over 150 articles in various technical publications worldwide. Joe obtained the chartered engineer status in the UK and he is a registered professional engineer as well as a NRF rated researcher in South Africa. Joe recently served as an experienced researcher for the European Union Horizon 2020 MSCA RISE Project 645733 (2014-2018) on the Sustainable Design and Management of Industrial Assets through Total Value and Cost of Ownership. Joe is a Founding Fellow, Director and current Chair of the Board of Directors of the International Society of Engineering Asset Management (www.iseam.org), as well as a member of the Board of International Association for the Management of Technology (www.iamot.net).
