About the editors

Federico Coccolini is a consultant general, emergency and trauma surgeon working at the Pisa University Cisanello Hospital  , one of the biggest level-I trauma centres in Italy, and  teaches Emergency and Trauma Surgery at the University of Pisa. He has a deep and documented experience in managing post-traumatic and non post-traumatic surgical patients. His principal interests are: emergency surgery, trauma surgery, advanced oncology, oncologic gastrointestinal surgery, laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery, tissue engineering and experimental surgery, evidence based medicine and evidence based surgery. He actually is the principal investigator of several multicenter studies and registers.

Mauro Podda is a Consultant General and Emergency Surgeon and Clinical Lecture in Surgery at the Department of Emergency Surgery of Cagliari University Hospital “Policlinico Universitario Duilio Casula”. His particular research fields are minimally invasive gastric, pancreatic, colorectal, and general emergency surgery. He is member of the editorial board of several scientific journals and reviewer for the British Journal of Surgery, the British Medical Journal, International Journal of Medical Robotics and Computer Assisted Surgery, Annals of Internal Medicine, World Journal of Surgery and World Journal of Emergency Surgery.

Robert Lim is a Professor of Surgery, Resident Program Director and the Vice-Chair of Education for the Department of Surgery at the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine at Tulsa. He is fellowship trained in minimally invasive surgery and a former military surgeon with 6 deployments to the combat zones of Iraq and Afghanistan earning both Bronze Star and Legion of Merit awards.  He has also been awarded the Army's A Designator for clinical mastery and is a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit.  Most recently, he has helped bring combat trauma and minimally invasive surgery education to the surgeons in Ukraine in the war against Russia.

Massimo Chiarugi is full Professor of General Surgery and Director of the Postgraduate School of General Surgery at Pisa University (Italy). He is the Chief of the Emergency Surgery Unit & Trauma Center at Cisanello Hospital, Pisa, a busy and most renowed referring center for acute care surgery in Italy. He has gained a wide experience in elective, emergency and trauma surgery. His main research interests include inflammatory response to acute conditions, general emergency surgery, laparoscopy and minimally invasive surgery in elective and acute care, gastrointestinal oncology, colorectal conditions, and trauma surgery.
