Institut Mittag-Leffler and Springer announce partnership in publishing mathematics journals

Heidelberg, July 5, 2005

The Institut Mittag-Leffler, a Nordic research institute for mathematics under the auspices of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and the scientific publisher Springer announced a new partnership to publish Acta Mathematica and Arkiv för Matematik, two leading journals in the field of mathematics. The publishing partnership will commence in January 2006.

Acta Mathematica and Arkiv för matematik are well established and highly respected international journals published by the Institut Mittag-Leffler. Acta Mathematica began publication in 1882; Arkiv för Matematik started in 1950.
“In an effort to further expand our international reach, the institute was looking for a progressive publisher with global expertise,” said Kjell-Ove Widman, director of the Institut Mittag-Leffler. “We found in Springer a dedicated and service-oriented publishing partner who can help us achieve our growth objectives.”
"Springer is delighted to be the institute’s new publishing partner,” said Joachim Heinze, director of the mathematics program at Springer. “It is an honor for us to be publishing Acta Mathematica. We are in a good position to strengthen and further develop the journals in close cooperation with the institute, especially with regard to the online version and Online First on SpringerLink. Many institutes and societies choose to work with Springer because we have the infrastructure that ensures their journals receive the attention and visibility they deserve.”
The Institut Mittag-Leffler was founded in 1916 by Gösta and Signe Mittag-Leffler to promote research in pure mathematics in the Scandinavian countries. The institute was incorporated into the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1919.
Springer is one of the leading scientific publishing companies, ranking second in the world in the science, technology, and medicine sector. It publishes on behalf of more than 300 academic associations and professional societies worldwide. Springer is the world market leader in the field of mathematics with journals such as Inventiones Mathematicae, Mathematische Annalen, Annali di Matematica Pura ed Applicata and Publications Mathématiques de l'IHÉS.
