Springer’s print-on-demand MyCopy service now available in Europe

Following success in US and Canada, European library users can now order softcover copies of Springer eBooks

After the successful launch in the US and Canada, Springer Science+Business Media has extended its MyCopy service with immediate effect to library users in Europe. In line with this service, all registered library patrons will be able to order a softcover copy of a Springer eBook for their personal use by clicking on a button on the Springer platform www.springerlink.com. The softcover copies are priced at a flat fee of EUR 24.95, which includes shipping and handling within these European countries : Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK.
The MyCopy offer will be valid for more than 15,000 electronic Springer books published since 2005, and the number of titles available is constantly growing. The softcover format is branded as a MyCopy book with a color cover and black and white book content.
MyCopy books can only be ordered by registered patrons of academic libraries that have purchased the corresponding eBook Collection and have agreed to this service. The entire ordering and shipping process will be handled by Springer in cooperation with a print-on-demand (POD) provider.
“Yes, the book did match my expectations. I certainly will buy again - the most attractive thing is the considerable savings in the price - this is simply unbelievable and not matched by any other offer from any bookseller! Please keep it up,” said Dr. Manika Jayawardena, trainee radiologist, associated through the University of Liverpool in the UK.
“Due to the excellent responses we received from MyCopy’s pilot project launch in North America since October 2008, we are pleased to be able to offer this option to librarians in Europe for their users. Our North American users found MyCopy to be both cost effective and of excellent print quality,” said Derk Haank, CEO of Springer Science+Business Media. “This offer brings the digitization debate full circle, from print books, to eBooks, to a print-version of the eBook at a fantastic price, especially for students.”
