Springer partners with Dai Nippon Printing for POD solutions in Japan

The agreement will allow Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) to connect to Springer’s global electronic publishing workflow

Springer and Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) have come to an agreement in which DNP will provide single-copy minimum print-on-demand (POD) solutions for Springer titles delivered to the Japanese market. A possible extension of the agreement to the rest of the Asian market will be discussed in the future. DNP will also handle the delivery logistics to local distributors, libraries and other end users in Japan.
The agreement will allow DNP to connect to Springer’s global electronic publishing workflow, which is an important step in the direction of achieving fully automated inventory-less POD systems, thereby significantly reducing delivery times, freight and other costs.
“The Asian market, and especially Japan, are of great strategic importance to Springer, and we are delighted to have DNP as a trusted partner. It is essential for us to develop efficient distribution solutions for traditional print material, which has become most critical to meet the ever growing regional demand for STM (Science, Technology and Medicine) content,” said Martin Mos, Springer’s Chief Operating Officer.
DNP will use its state-of-the art facilities and highly developed data management systems, and is expected to start processing Springer titles by the fourth quarter of 2011.
“We are privileged to have the opportunity to work with Springer, a leading global STM publisher, for supplying a wide range of publication in Japanese market with our POD solutions, “said Fujio Yamazaki, Senior Corporate Officer of DNP.
