About this book

This book presents a collection of recent contributions in the field of transport phenomena in multiphase systems, namely, heat and mass transfer. It discusses various topics related to the transport phenomenon in engineering (including state-of-the-art, theory and applications) and introduces some of the most important theoretical advances, computational developments and technological applications in multiphase systems domain, providing a self-contained key reference that is appealing to scientists, researchers and engineers alike. At the same time, these topics are relevant to a variety of scientific and engineering disciplines, such as chemical, civil, agricultural, and mechanical engineering.

About the editors

J.M.P.Q. Delgado graduated in Chemical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto (FEUP) in 1995 and completed a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering (Transport Phenomena) at the same institution, in 2002. Currently, he is a Researcher at CONSTRUCT at the Civil Engineering Department, FEUP. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Building Pathology and Rehabilitation (BPAR), published by Springer-Verlag; the Springer Book Series: Building Pathology and Rehabilitation; Lead Guest Editor of the Annual Special Issue on “Advances in Building Technologies and Construction Materials”, published by Hindawi; and member of the editorial board of 6 international peer-reviewed journals. He is author of more than 125 papers published in international peer-reviewed journals, 14 international books, 25 international book chapters, and invited editor of 14 international books and 20 special issues in international peer-reviewed journals and he has presented over 120 papers at international scientific conferences.

Since 2009, he has been Co-chairman of the International Conference on Diffusion in Solids and Liquids (DSL), member of the executive commission of the 1st International Symposium on Building Pathology (ISBP-2015). He has been involved in the organization of 4 international conferences: 12th International Conference on Durability of Building Materials and Components (12 DBMC-2011), WUFI-2010 and 3rd and 5th Conferences on Building Pathology and Rehabilitation (PATORREB 2015 and PATORREB 20009), as well as the organisation of 18 special sessions at international conferences and he was a member of the scientific committee of 13 international conferences.

Antonio Gilson Barbosa de Lima graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Paraiba (UFPB) in 1991 and in Physics from the State University of Paraiba (UEPB) in 1990. He completed a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at the FederalUniversity of Paraiba (UFPB) in 1995 and a Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering (Transport Phenomena), at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), in 1999. Currently, he is Titular Professor in Fluid and Thermal Computational Laboratory at the Mechanical Engineering Department, Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG).

Since 2016, he has been a member of the Mechanical, Naval, Oceanic and Aerospace Engineering Committee of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq, Brazil). He is Guest Editor of the Annual Special Issue on "Advances in Building Technologies and Construction Materials", published by Hindawi. He is author of more than 165 papers published in international peer-reviewed journals, Editor of 3 international books, 17 international book chapters, author of 2 national books, invited reviewer of more than 20 international peer-reviewed journals, and has presented more than 240 papers at national and international scientific conferences.

He was involved in the organization of 2 international conferences (the International Conference on Computational Modeling and Simulation for the Petroleum Industry, CMSPI in 2010 and 2007), 4 special sessions at the International Conference on Diffusion in Solids and Liquids (DSL) and of 3 national conferences (National Congress of Mechanical Engineering, CONEM 2002; and the National Congress of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biocombustibles, CONEPETRO 2015, and 2016).
