About this book

This book discusses the perspectives and practices of teacher education programs in order to shed new light on the national priorities, policies, curriculum inputs, delivery mechanisms, challenges and future trends in 20 selected countries. It examines and compares the complexity of teacher education in international contexts, providing insights into educational change and reform in emerging democracies. Further, it includes cases from various countries that reflect how the profession is moving forward. In order to deepen readers’ understanding of teacher training and the challenges posed by globalization, the book concludes with a discussion of theoretical perspectives applied to teacher education, and with recommendations for new directions. Given its scope, the book is an essential read for teacher educators, students, and researchers working in the field of education.

About the editor

Prof. Karanam. Pushpanadham is a Professor of Educational Management at the Department of Educational Administration, Faculty of Education and Psychology, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Gujarat. He is the Member of the Senate, National Institute of Fashion Technology, Ministry of Textile, Government of India (2017-2019) and also the Member of the Senate, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (2012-2013). Recipient of Swedish Institute's Guest Professorship at the Institute of International Education, Stockholm University, Sweden. Guest Professor of EUs Erasmus Mundus at the Aarhus University at Copenhagen Denmark. He has worked with British Council, India on the Global Teacher Accreditation Program and conducted several Teacher professional Development programs. He is currently working in the area of Teacher Education, Comparative International Education, Lifelong Learning, ICT in Education and Educational Management. He has directed several national and international research projects and published several books and research papers of high repute. He is the Member of several national committees on Education. He is the coordinator of the UGC- DSA program in the Department of Educational Administration.
