About this book
This book covers the exchange of greenhouse gases in various ecosystems, biomes and climatic zones, and discusses the measurement, modelling and processes involved in these exchange dynamics. It reflects the growing body of knowledge on the characterization, feedback processes and interaction of greenhouse gases with ecosystems and the impact of human activities. Offering a compilation of selected case studies prepared by international researchers working in the field, it represents a valuable resource for researchers and students alike.

About the editors
Narasinha J. Shurpali is a senior researcher at the Department of Environmental and Biological Sciences, University of Eastern Finland (UEF), Kuopio campus. He received his MSc and PhD from the College of Agriculture, Mahatma Phule Agricultural University (India) and University of Nebraska (USA) respectively, and subsequently worked at various international institutes including the University of Antwerp (Belgium), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (India), University of Indiana (USA) and the Finnish Forest Research Institute (Finland). His primary research interest is in using measurement techniques to understand the carbon and nitrogen biogeochemical cycles in agriculture and other complex ecosystems such as natural and managed peatlands, forests on organic and mineral soils, arctic ecosystems, and simulation modelling of biogeochemical cycles of C and N using field data to validate the models, which represent an important tool in enhancing our understanding of the atmosphere–biosphere exchange.
Avinash K Agarwal is a Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. His areas of interest are IC engines, combustion, alternative fuels, conventional fuels, optical diagnostics, laser ignition, HCCI, emission and particulate control, and large bore engines. He has published 24 books and 230+ international journal and conference papers. Prof. Agarwal is a Fellow of the SAE (2012), ASME (2013), ISEES (2015) and INAE (2015). He has received several awards such as the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in Engineering Sciences (2016), Rajib Goyal Prize (2015), and NASI-Reliance Industries Platinum Jubilee Award (2012).
VK Srivastava is a Professor and the Associate Director of Research at Kamdhenu University, Gujarat (India). His areas of research interest include the treatment, downstream processing and recovery of wastes, including hazardous wastes, industrial effluents, oil spills, etc., as well as the potential extraction and utilization of waste. He has worked on many government- and industry-sponsored projects, and is a member of many technical and professional societies including the European Geosciences Union, National Safety Council of India, American Chemical Society, Royal Society of Chemistry, etc.
