About this book

This textbook covers the processing of advanced composites and their various technologies, with special emphasis on the distinct characteristics of processability. The book covers the impact of different processing techniques on the performance and characteristics of the final product. Written with a didactic approach, the volume contains extensive illustrations and pedagogic features (including examples and exercises) to help the reader assess and correlate existing technologies. The book will be useful as a text in graduate courses in processing of polymers and composites and can additionally be used as a professional reference.

About the authors

Anup K. Ghosh is a distinguished and renowned Professor in the field of Polymer Science & Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India and Fellow of  National Academy of Sciences, India. He did his PhD in Chemical Engineering from State University of New York (SUNY), Buffalo, USA. He joined IIT Delhi as faculty in 1991. Prof. Ghosh’s research interest includes rheology and processing of polymers, reactive extrusion, polymer blending and alloying, polymer nano-composites, cellular polymers bio-polymers, mixing and polymer reaction engineering. He has authored more than 200 journal and conference papers, edited two books and is a co-inventor of 9 patents. He is a recipient of the Young Alumnus Award of Chemical Engineering Department, Calcutta University and Meritorious Service Award of Indian Plastics Institute, India. Prof. Ghosh is a member of many prestigious Committees/Boards such as the Editorial Boards of Journal of Plastics Film & Sheeting and Associate Editor of Journal of Packaging Technology and Research. He is the Founder Member of Polymer Processing Academy. He has been elected as International Representative of the Polymer Processing Society, USA and Fellow of Indian Plastics Institute.

Mayank Dwivedi is Senior Scientist and Director of the Directorate of Industry Interface & Technology Management (DIITM) in the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), India. He did his Masters of Engineering (M.E.) in Polymer Technology from Delhi College of Engineering and Doctorate in Advanced Composites from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), India. He is alumnus of the prestigious National Defence College (NDC), India. Dr Dwivedi has been working in the area of processing of advanced composites for last more than 30 years, and his work has included the development of airframes, high temperature composites, polymeric nanocomposites and biomechanical devices. He is recipient of Lab Scientist Award. He has a number of international publications and patents to his credit, and has authored books and edited chapters in the area of advanced composites and nanotechnology. He is a member of many National and International Societies in the area of polymer engineering and allied fields.
