Neuropsychiatry explores the complex relationship between behavior and brain function from the interdisciplinary perspectives of psychology, neurology, and psychiatry. Researchers in the field investigate the psychiatric symptoms of neurological disorders and study psychiatric illnesses as brain disorders. This book is a collection of selected papers from the 3rd International Congress of Neuropsychiatry, held in Kyoto, Japan, in April 2000. Reflecting the broad range of knowledge and experience of the more than 700 participants at the Kyoto congress, the chapters of the book are organized in major subject areas that include worldwide collaboration in neuropsychiatry; brain structures and functions; neuropsychiatry in children, adolescents, and the elderly; and dementing disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, diffuse Lewy body disease, and vascular dementia.
