About this book
In taking advantage of the abundant laboratory material of the neurological clinic of Heidelberg University and of the neurology department of Klinikum Charlottenburg of the Freie UniversiHit Berlin, Dr. KOLMEL has succeeded in producing a clinically representative cross-section of the cytologic phenoma in cerebrospinal fluid. There has long been a need for such an atlas. An introductory presentation on cell collection techniques and staining methods is both brief and precise. The excellent illustrations, which make up the most extensive part of the work, are the results of a sedimentation chamber technique. Dr. KOLMEL has developed a simple method to the point that it allows optimal reproduceability. If cytodiagnosis of the CSF - the most difficult and problem-ridden area of exfoliative cytology-achieves greater attention and wider application in the future, it will certainly be to the credit of the author and his meticulous efforts. I am convinced that the demand for this volume will be great. JOHANNES SA YK Director of the Department of Neurology The University of Rostock v Preface Cytologic examination of the cerebrospinal fluid is a technically simple but productive diagnostic procedure. This book attempts to provide guidance to neophytes in the field of cytology and hopes to provide stimulation to the more experienced.
