About this book

Eva Seidlmayer stellt die Frage nach dem Zusammenhang von Philosophie und praktischem Handeln. Ausgehend von der antiken Auseinandersetzung zwischen Stoikern und Skeptikern geht die Autorin dabei dem Zusammenspiel von Partikularismus und Universalismus im Denken und Handeln auf die Spur, das sie bis zum postmodernen Dekonstruktivismus führt. Zuletzt schlägt sie eine Vermittlung im Anschluss an den Pragmatisten John Dewey vor. Vor diesem weiten Horizont gelingt es ihr auf originelle Weise, die Antike durch die Moderne und umgekehrt zu beleuchten.

Dr. Eva Seidlmayer studierte Philosophie und Alte Geschichte in Hannover, Frankfurt/Main und Paris und entwirft neue Denkwege an der Schnittstelle von Philosophie und Geschichte zwischen Antike und Gegenwart. Dabei fasziniert sie das Verhältnis von Partikeln und dem Ganzen, von dem jene ein Teil sind.
