Im Zuge einer statuierten „Rückkehr der Religion“ stellt Stephanie Garling die gegenwärtige Formation der Kategorie Religion in den Fokus ihrer empirischen Studie und betrachtet Religion als Diskurskategorie, die einem ständigen Prozess sozialer Konstruktion unterliegt. Am Beispiel des Politikfeldes Entwicklungszusammenarbeit macht die Autorin typische Auseinandersetzungen mit dem Gegenstand der Religion in der heutigen Zeit kenntlich und illustriert anhand programmatischer Texte, was als Religion wahrgenommen wird.
