The aim of this monograph is to present the latest information on the treatment of cancer, and the words quoted above from the report of a WHO Expert Committee on Cancer Treatment form an appropriate introduction to the subject. The pessimism to which they refer is still all too often characteristic of the attitude towards cancer and its treatment.
